The Atom Bomb

How the Atom Bomb Works

The first Atom bomb was dropped from a B-29 bomber named Enola Gay piloted by Colonel Paul Tibbets at Dawn on August 6th, 1945. The bomb was dropped over Hiroshima, Japan and exploded 43 seconds after it was dropped. The light that came from the explosion was so bright, that it burned patterns of dark fabric into the flesh of victims. The bomb was so strong, that no building survived within a mile of Ground Zero, and every building within a three mile radius was damaged. Even glass windows in houses that were 12 miles away were shattered from the blast wave.

The Atom Bomb was created in response to information that Nazi Germany was attempting to create one as well. President Roosevelt gave permission for the creation of the Atom Bomb, known only as the Manhatten Project.
